For Olga Orr, the ambition was simple: to create a larger, more open kitchen that better suited the way she wanted to live. Central to her vision was the introduction of Taj Mahal quartz, a material chosen not just for its appearance but for the warmth and balance it could bring into a completely reimagined space. Rather than extending outward, she looked upward, transforming an underused loft into a new living area where the stone could take centre stage.
The result is a space that feels effortless in its composition yet deeply considered in every detail. Defined by soft tones and an abundance of natural light, the kitchen sits comfortably within the architectural lines of the loft, embracing the sloping ceiling rather than working against it. Taj Mahal quartz flows across the main island and perimeter surfaces, its creamy base and delicate veining introducing a quiet richness that anchors the entire room.
At the centre of the space, the island becomes both a functional and visual focal point. Wrapped entirely in Taj Mahal quartz, it is sculptural in form yet warm in presence. One side reveals a thoughtfully integrated open storage niche, also clad in the same stone, creating a seamless continuation of material. This open space introduces a layer of personality and lived-in charm while maintaining the overall calm of the design.
This attention to detail extends beyond the main working areas. On the opposite side of the room, the Taj Mahal is used again to form a smaller display surface, creating a quiet moment within the space. Styled with a vase, art and curated elements, it becomes more than just a shelf. It is a subtle continuation of the material language that ties the entire room together.
The palette throughout remains soft and restrained. Pale cabinetry, gentle wood tones, and light flooring all work in harmony with the stone, allowing it to bring warmth without overwhelming the space. The natural light that floods in from the large windows enhances this effect further, catching the surface of the quartz and revealing its depth and movement throughout the day.
