The industry has a silica problem
Traditional engineered stone can contain very high levels of crystalline silica. When slabs are cut, drilled, ground or polished, respirable crystalline silica dust may be generated, a serious occupational health concern for the fabricators who work with the material every day.
Regulators around the world are responding, and the industry is being asked to change. We believe the answer is not to abandon engineered surfaces, but to rethink what they are made from.

About Stones has taken a different approach, developing engineered slabs without crystalline silica in the formulation. Composition, design and practical application were considered together from the beginning.
This is more than a reduced-silica alternative. It is a complete surface material, a considered composition, a coordinated visual direction, and a product developed for professional fabrication and specification.
Our aim is larger than one collection: to show the UK market that engineered surfaces can deliver the character and performance the industry expects, without crystalline silica in the material itself.

About Stones is a UK developer of stone and engineered surface materials. Our role extends beyond the distribution of finished slabs.
We shape material direction, product development and collection strategy, working with carefully selected manufacturing partners to bring coordinated surfaces to the UK market, and to move that market towards materials made without crystalline silica.
The statement “0% crystalline silica” relates specifically to the crystalline silica content of the material. It does not mean that cutting, drilling, grinding, polishing or handling the product is free from dust, mist, particles or other occupational risks. All fabrication and installation work must follow the latest Safety Data Sheet, current fabrication guidance, a suitable COSHH risk assessment, equipment manufacturers’ instructions and applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
